Shop For Anissa

A few weeks ago, the blog community wept as news that Anissa Mayhew, dear friend and hilarious spirit to so many, had suffered a major stroke. Though tragic, it has been inspiring to see the online community rise to support the Mayhew family, and the strength and courage of Anissa's husband Peter is incomparable.

Also amazing have been Anissa's colleagues over at Aiming Low. Aiming Low is in the process of organizing Shop for Anissa Day, on December 10th, which will feature a group of vendors and shop owners who have agreed to donate a percentage of their sales on December 10 directly to the Hope 4 Anissa fund.

I am participating in this fundraising campaign. Please shop Posh Peacock on December 10. I will donate 50% of profits on each sale to the Hope 4 Anissa fund.

Baby Ania's Quilt

One of my favorite things in the world is taking the time to create gifts. And I love baby projects; they're so meaningful and adorable, yet less intimidating than taking on something grownup sized (e.g., quilts, sweaters, etc.).

I made this two-sided quilt for baby Ania, beautiful little girl to our dear friends Katherine and Corey. When I brought the fabrics home, my husband thought they were a tad crazy, but they just spoke to me (and of Katherine and Corey) when I saw them in the store. I wanted something modern that could work for either gender (they didn't know what they were having), even if there was a touch of pink present. I hand quilted the layers together (following the fruit patterns in the fabric) and did a classic hand stitched binding in a very awesome chartreuse solid.

Quilts such as these are a labor of love, and I feel so, so happy with every teeny tiny stitch.

Custom Candy Bar Wrappers

I'm a big fan of usable favors (i.e., just say no to tchotchke) and chocolate is a pretty solid choice. A friend asked if I could help create custom candy bar wrappers for her daughter's birthday party favors. The result was super cute; details here.

Spring Greetings Cards (The New Holiday Card)

It took me 3 months to get my holiday cards out, but it was well worth it. I designed our holiday cards as spring greetings that were eco-friendly through their 100% recycled content with soy ink printing. And most importantly, they were heartfelt - so it didn't really matter how late they were.

That's why I absolutely loved designing these super stylish 70th birthday invitations. The colorways and typesetting are modern and fun - perfectly fitting for the client.

Seriously, do employees need another company logo paper weight or inspirational calendar? Whenever my husband comes home with those sorts of things around the holidays, we collectively shake our heads in dismay.

Given that they know about a million or so product vendors, I was honored that the ladies behind The Parent Bloggers Network wanted me to produce holiday gift certificates for their writers. I worked up some cute custom corporate gift certificates for them. And their writers felt the love; the response was wonderful.

I was honored to receive another major press mention, this time from Cookie Magazine. Not only was it wonderful to be included in the company of a truly lovely array of thank you card designs (congrats to all of the other fantastic designers!), but my slide also was featured on the main gear + shopping landing page (screenshot shown). My work at Boston Mamas and Posh Peacock has proven to intersect in unexpected and fun ways.

A couple of weeks ago I was chatting with Jane Seibel of Employmoms - I had connected with her at the recent Detours & OnRamps forum. We were talking about Boston Mamas and then Posh Peacock came up. And then all of a sudden we were talking about her design needs.

Jane needed a web button designed; something I love doing but don't do that often (clearly I need to promote myself more in this vein!). The project is still under wraps so I'll show the button here once Jane's project is live. Meanwhile, you can read her very kind testimonial here.

Valentines for the Penmanship Challenged

Oh I am woefully behind on posh updates. I plan on catching up soon, but meanwhile, I thought I'd post up what I put together for Laurel's class valentines. This is what results when you have a daughter who covets and a mom with bad penmanship (and who is facile at Illustrator).

The back story is that we bought Disney princess valentines from CVS a couple of weeks ago and I was totally cool with that. I obviously love craft and design but I don't feel compelled to pull out the design stops every holiday. But as the day of the school party (today) drew closer, it was clear that Laurel was not going to part with those Disney princess cards (and lollipops), save the ones she distributed to me, her dad, her Auntie Sha-Sha, and my mom. I spent an absurd (and annoying) amount of time trying to negotiate.

So two days ago I gave up on trying to wrestle princess valentines from her and came up with these cute, simple heart cards. The part that I really love is that by highlighting each kid's name (in matching blue to "happy valentine's day" and "xoxo laurel") the card is personalized and I don't need to subject anyone to my illegible penmanship. And since I'm feeling somewhat nostalgic about this being Laurel's last year before leaving her school and going to kindergarten, I like that all the kid and teacher names get to sit all together in the heart.
